Please do not misunderstand! This is not an 'online TEFL course' for persons who want to shortcut the procedure of becoming teachers, and which enriches unscrupulous course providers by convincing you that all you need to do to teach successfully is perform a few simple 'lessons' online, without any assistance from an on-the-premises trainer or any practice with real EFL or ESL learners. Indeed, if we wanted to make a lot of money that way and bilk innocent persons out of their hard-earned cash, we – with our unequalled knowledge, experience and skills –  could certainly do so a lot better than most other people! But that is not our way.

At the same time, a lot of our success as language trainers over the past 30-plus years has been owing to the fact that our feet are planted firmly in 'the real world' of language teaching – in other words, our efforts are always geared towards practical needs while upholding the highest possible standards of teaching and training excellence. This is certainly true in the case of our unique TEFL Certificate Home Study Course, which has been put together for persons who are already so busy teaching (and earning a living thereby) that they have no time to get properly qualified in one of our regular courses. Certainly, not only they, by we, are intensely interested in helping them to become properly trained and qualified nonetheless – as their students surely need better assistance than they have been receiving up to now, however hard their teachers may have been trying. The study procedure will vary somewhat, depending on whether you are now teaching in Thailand, or if you are teaching abroad. In either case, you must currently be teaching either ESL or EFL students: Teaching English classes of any level or type other than these will disqualify you from taking our Home Study Course!

The following are the rules and procedures. The TEFL Certificate Home Study Course involves receiving and studying through the six course books and Pronunciation CD that we normally provide trainees; doing all Home Comprehension Exams; and completing each (short) Module Exam at home, in each case forwarding your work to one of our study locations by whatever means best suits your convenience. Our professional trainers will grade each assignment, and provide helpful instruction and advice about your work in the case of each submission. After successfully completing all homework assignments, you must then teach real EFL students at a school (our own, generally, if you are in Thailand) for a total of six hours under the observation of trained teachers who will rate your performance. Finally, you will need to take a written Course Final Exam in the presence of an examiner. Your teaching performance ratings and your Course Final Exam and other performance scores will then be compiled into a final course grade and printed onto our usual Thailand Ministry of Education numbered certificate form and signed by our Academy Director, our Principal and your 'Distance Trainer'. This is a fully legal document, university accredited, which can be used anywhere in the world to gain employment. If you are in Thailand, we will present this certificate to you in person, along with your course performance evaluation and course description documents. Persons currently teaching EFL or ESL in Thailand. You must be able to provide verifiable evidence of full-time EFL or ESL teaching experience for at least the past 18 months. Exceptions may be made in special cases, upon conference with our Academy Director. Just go oneline and enroll, paying by credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Following that, please contact Mr Leigh Richards (leigh@langserv.com) to arrange which of our training locations (Bangkok, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Khon Kaen or Chiangmai) you wish to coordinate with and receive your study materials from. Leigh will organize all of this for you. If you have serious financial limitations, please contact Leigh before enrolling to arrange for some realistic payment plan that will meet your needs. IMPORTANT NOTE: if you enroll to study at home, you must check the box on the enrollment form which designates you as 'SHORT GRAD', that is, 'Graduate of another certificate course of less than 100 interactive training hours'. Course materials will need to be picked up in person, for maximum instructions.

You will need to submit your completed homework assignments to the trainer at the location you have chosen, preferably in person, though you may do this by mail or courier. Teaching practice must genearally be performed at the training location along with other TEFL Course trainees, though an exception can be made if your employing school offers strict controls and uses our own forms during a minimum of six hours of teaching practice. If you do your practice teaching at your training location, you may need to arrange this in advance with your school, but we believe they will readily cooperate if you communicate with them in advance. Your written Course Final Exam will certainly need to be taken at your training location, in the presence of your trainer.

Persons currently teaching EFL or ESL abroad. An untrained teacher residing abroad must have at least 18 months of verifiable EFL or ESL teaching experience. if you enroll to study at home, you must check the box on the enrollment form which designates you as 'SHORT GRAD', that is, 'Graduate of another certificate course of less than 100 interactive training hours'.

If you elect this method of study, you may learn at your own pace, but must do all Course Home Comprehension Exams, Module Exams and the Final Exam.All enrolees must also do at least 6 hours of observed teaching practice at our Academy upon your arrival in Thailand. Or, if you are (and remain) abroad, we will help you to do this at a school located near you. Enrollees outside of Thailand must also pay by bank transfer an additional U.S. £75 or equivalent for shipment of materials and documents to the Academy account. At the appropriate times, we will help you arrange for a school in the country where you are located to facilitate and grade the written Module Exams and the Final Exam and your teaching practices in accordance with Academy standards. Exceptions may be made in special cases, upon conference with Mr Leigh Richards, who will take the matter up on your behalf with our Academy Director. First, you will need to enroll online by credit card for the full course amount. You will then need to e-mail Mr Leigh Richards (leigh@langserv.com) to inform him of your intentions and to have him arrange the shipment of your materials to your home address. We will ship these in the manner you request, and will charge you as above. This cost amount, however, must be transferred into our Academy account prior to shipment. Second, you will need to arrange a communication between your employing school and our Academy, so that they will organize the observed teaching practice for you (using our own rating form) and conduct the written Course Final Exam – forwarding all forms and information to us expeditiously for use by us in computing your final course grade.

Third, you may elect to submit your work on the Home Comprehension and Module Exams to your Distance Trainer by e-mail attachment, in order to avoid mail delays, etc. This will entail a bit of extra work on your part, as well as on your trainer's part, but should be worthwhile, as you can complete the course work that much sooner.

It's not as complicated as it may sound!

In summary, to provide for you the quality training that we are accustomed to providing, and which both you and your students deserve, there is no shorter or easier way for you to become qualified as an EFL or ESL teacher. It's as easy as we can make it, but if it were any 'easier' it would not be worth the price you are paying for it.
